Acorn TV and TVNZ harvest second season of romantic comedy Under the Vines

Under the Vines follows two city slickers who inherit a failing vineyard in New Zealand

AMC Networks-owned streamer Acorn TV and New Zealand broadcaster TVNZ have ordered a second season of romantic comedy Under the Vines.

The renewal comes after the first season premiered on December 6 on Acorn TV in the US and Australia, and ahead of its January 10 premiere on Acorn TV in the UK. The primetime broadcast debut on TVNZ 1 is also scheduled for early 2022.

Produced by Libertine Pictures (Daffodils, Mystic) and EQ Media Group (Troppo, At Home with Julia), in association with Hardy White Pictures, the series stars Rebecca Gibney and Charles Edwards as two unlikely city slickers who inherit a failing vineyard in rural New Zealand. It is created and co-written by Erin White.

Filming of the six-part second season is expected to begin in Central Otago, New Zealand, in early 2022.

Acorn TV holds all worldwide rights to the series, except in New Zealand where they belong to TVNZ.

The show is executive produced by Gibney and Richard Fletcher for Libertine Pictures, Brendan Dahill for EQ Media Group and Catherine Mackin for Acorn Media Enterprises. Michelle Hardy and White are associate producers for Hardy White Pictures. Kiwi writer-producer Paul Yates is also joining the production team for season two.

Acorn TV’s other original commissions in 2021 include UK crime dramas Whitstable Pearl, starring Kerry Godliman, Dalgliesh, with Bertie Carvel, and Bloodlands, with James Nesbitt, as well as returning Kiwi detective series My Life Is Murder.
