ABC reboots Uncle Buck

US network ABC is bolstering its comedy roster with an adaptation of 1989 John Candy movie Uncle Buck.

The pilot, based on the John Hughes-directed film, is billed as a family comedy about a childish man who takes care of his brother’s children.

Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley are attached to write the Universal TV and ABC Studios project, which will be exec produced by Will Packer.

Uncle Buck joins a growing number of hit movies being given series treatment this season. Eighties comedy Problem Child has received a pilot order at NBC, while TV reworkings of Rush Hour and Limitless are also in place at CBS.

Meanwhile, ABC has ordered a lesbian family comedy from comedian Fortune Feimster and producer Tina Fey.

Family Fortune, also from Universal TV, follows a gym teacher who comes out to her family and friends as her divorced parents begin to rekindle their relationship. Feimster stars and co-wrote the pilot with Matt Hubbard.

Last week, ABC ordered crime drama pilot Flesh & Blood from Jenna Bans, the producer of Grey’s Anatomy and Scandal. The network also added five pilots to its drama slate including Runner, a show about the murky world of the international gun trade based on Turkish drama The End.
