ABC re-enters The Deep

Children’s animated series The Deep

Australian pubcaster the ABC has ordered a fourth season of kids’ animated series The Deep.

Based on a graphic novel series by Tom Taylor (Superman) and artist James Brouwer (Justice League Beyond), the show is produced by A Stark Production in Australia, WildBrain in Canada and Infinite Studios in Singapore.

ABC has greenlit the episodes alongside Mediacorp and the Australian Children’s Television Foundation with the support of Screen NSW. It brings the total number of episodes in the series to 65×30′.

The latest season (13×30′) of The Deep sees marine explorers the Nekton family finally discover the fabled city of Lemuria, reigniting hope that they might also find lost loved ones.

The fourth season of The Deep, which is targeted at 8- to 12-year-olds, has also already been pre-sold to CBBC in the UK, WildBrain’s Family Channel in Canada, Super RTL in Germany and SVT in Sweden.

The Australian Children’s Television Foundation handles distribution rights for Australia and New Zealand, while Infinite Studios is managing rights for Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Vietnam, Myanmar, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos and China. WildBrain oversees sales for the rest of the world.

Avrill Stark, CEO of A Stark Production, said The Deep “is steeped in the mysteries of the ocean, the uncovering of myths and legends, the discovery of incredible sea creatures and, of course, where the Nektons will again cross paths with old friends and foes.”
