Agnes O’Casey in Ridley Road

French producer and distributor StudioCanal has sold 4×60’ drama series Ridley Road to several international networks, including Now Studio Hong Kong, ABC Australia, Nova Greece, YLE Finland, SVT Sweden, NRK Norway and DR Denmark.

Created and produced by StudioCanal-owned Red Production Company, the series was initially commissioned for BBC One, which debuted it in October. It is coproduced with Masterpiece, and will also air in the US on PBS Masterpiece and in France on Canal+.

StudioCanal has also secured sales to RTÉ Ireland, Hot Israel, Canal+ Poland and Disney+ Benelux, in addition to the previously announced sale to Mola Indonesia.

Ridley Road is written by Sarah Solemani, who also executive produces alongside Nicola Shindler, Lucy Richer and Ayela Butt for the BBC, and Rebecca Eaton for Masterpiece.

Lisa Mulcahy (Years and Years, Blood) directed all four episodes, while Betsan Morris Evans (The War of the Worlds, The City & the City) serves as series producer.

Based on the book by Jo Bloom, the series tells the story of a young Jewish woman who rejects her comfortable middle-class life in Manchester and joins the fight against fascism in London after falling in love with a member of the 62 Group, a militant coalition of anti-fascists formed in London. It stars Agnes O’Casey alongside Tom Varey (Game of Thrones), Rory Kinnear (Skyfall) and Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan).
