ABC Oz names Georgina Somerset deputy chair for six months

NEWS BRIEF: Australian public broadcaster the ABC has appointed Georgina Somerset as deputy chair for a period of six months, after former incumbent Peter Tonagh left the broadcaster in December and re-emerged last month on the board of rival commercial network Nine Entertainment.

Somerset, a member of the ABC board since 2017, will be charged with providing stability as the independent panel for ABC board appointments fills the vacant non-executive director position. Following that, the government will choose a non-executive director from the board to hold the deputy chair role in the longer term.
