ABC falls for Israel’s Baker

The Baker & The Beauty

UPFRONTS: ABC in the US has picked up a romantic comedy based on an Israeli scripted format while axing a host of series including Speechless and Whiskey Cavalier.

The Baker & the Beauty is based on the Keshet Studios show of the same name and will transport the love story of a simple baker and an international superstar to Miami. The US version will be produced by ABC Studios, Keshet Studios and Universal Television.

ABC has also ordered Emergence, a drama series about a sheriff who takes in a young child that she finds near the site of a mysterious accident who has no memory of what has happened. It comes from ABC Studios and Fazekas & Butters.

Meanwhile, the Disney-owned network has brought the axe down on multiple series, with The Fix, The Kids Are Alright and Splitting Up Together joining Speechless and Whiskey Cavalier in reaching the end of the road. Whiskey Cavalier’s two remaining episodes on May 15 and 22 are still slated to air.

The network has also renewed a host of series, including Bless This Mee, Single Parents, The Goldbergs, Schooled, Fresh Off the Boat, American Housewife, The Rookie, Station 19, How to Get Away With Murder and Grey’s Anatomy.

The latter will return for record seasons 16 and 17. On the unscripted side, Dancing With the Stars and The Bachelor have been renewed.
