ABC drama head Morewitz to step down

Brian Morewitz, senior VP and head of drama development at Disney-owned ABC in the US, is leaving after over 15 years with the broadcast network.

Morewitz took up the role following previous incumbent Channing Dungey’s promotion to president of entertainment at ABC in 2016.

During his time at ABC, Morewitz is credited with overseeing the development and production of shows such as Big Sky, The Good Doctor, The Rookie, Castle, Nashville, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and American Crime.

Craig Erwich, head of Hulu originals and ABC Entertainment, and Simran Sethi, ABC’s executive VP of development and content strategy, informed colleagues of Morewitz’s decision to leave “to pursue new opportunities.”

Morewitz’s next move is not yet known. The news was first reported by Deadline.

In their note to staff, Erwich and Sethi said of Morewitz: “He is an extraordinarily creative and dedicated executive whose contributions are appreciated by all who work with him. In our relatively short time together, we’ve come to value Brian as a thoughtful and compassionate leader, and friend.”
