ABC Commercial takes new version of comedy Mother & Son to Mipcom

Mother & Son comes from Wooden Horse

ABC Commercial, the Australian pubcaster’s sales arm, will showcase the new version of classic Oz comedy series Mother & Son as part of its Mipcom slate in Cannes next month.

The original Mother & Son aired in the 1980s. The new 8×30′ version, produced by Wooden Horse, is a reimagining of the dynamic of an ageing mother and her relationship with her son.

Elsewhere, ABC Commercial’s factual slate for Mipcom includes The Way We Wore, an exploration of the fashion industry fronted by Australian comedian Celeste Barber (Wellmania).

Returning series Trading Kelpies for Border Collies, now in its second season down under, complements Muster Dogs, and the dog theme is extended to new format New Leash on Life, which pairs pound dogs with people in need.

Indigenous culture and history is explored with First Weapons, which analyses the knowledge, innovation and science of Australia’s oldest and deadliest First Nations weaponry.

Documentaries on the slate include The Dark Emu Story and Dolphins: Is Our Love Too Deep?, in addition to science-based programmes such as Monsters or Medicine? and Dark Side of the Universe. Other new formats include WTFAQ and Gardening Australia Junior.
