ABC Commercial packs romcom White Fever, Margolyes fact ent for Cannes

Miriam Margolyes explores down under in Impossibly Australian

The commercial arm of Australian public service broadcaster ABC is heading to the last ever MipTV in Cannes next month with a slate including a romcom and its latest Miriam Margolyes-fronted factual entertainment series.

Leading the slate is 6×30′ comedy series White Fever, described by ABC Commercial as a cheeky romcom about a Korean-Australian adoptee with a love of hairy white guys who goes on a journey to reprogramme her libido.

It stars series creator Ra Chapman alongside Chris Pang (Crazy Rich Asians) and will premiere on the ABC network next month

Meanwhile, iconic actor Margolyes (Harry Potter) fronts Impossibly Australian (3×60′), in which she returns to explore a country she considers her second home. It follows her previous series Almost Australian and Australia Unmasked.

Australia’s unique wildlife and stunning landscapes are on display in Living With Devils, which sees acclaimed filmmaker Simon Plowright spend a year in the wild with the endangered Tasmanian Devil.

Other factual content comes in the form of Blackfella Films’ social experiment Meet the Neighbours, while Chemical Media’s Who The Bloody Hell Are We? uncovers the stories that the history books left out. Format rights are available for both programmes.

For children, the slate includes the preschool series Fizzy & Suds, plus the latest season of The Wiggles’ Ready, Steady, Wiggle!

This year’s MipTV, held on April 6-10 in Cannes, will be the last after event organiser RX yesterday confirmed plans to close the market and move to London for a new event in 2025.
