Aardman partners toyco Mattel to reboot classic kids’ stop-motion property Pingu

Pingu was popular globally through the 1990s and early 2000s

MIPCOM: UK animation indie Aardman and US toy giant Mattel have teamed up to co-develop a reboot of classic stop-motion kids’ series Pingu.

The reboot will be a mix of stop-motion and 3D animation and will follow the comical adventures of Pingu as he meets the challenges of life along with his mum, dad and little sister.

Pingu was created in the 1980s and was a global hit throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Mattel acquired the IP in 2011 through its purchase of UK-US prodco Hit Entertainment.

The reboot will be co-developed by Aardman’s exec creative director of IP development Sarah Cox and producer Alan Thorpe, with Mattel Television Studios’ head of creative and animation Sidney Clifton, VP of creative content Rob David and senior manager of creative content Melanie Shannon.
