Upped from his previous position as chief operating officer, a post he has held for five years, Coffey will work with 53 Degrees CEO Nick Bullen to oversee the group’s strategy of diversifying its revenue streams.

His remit also includes taking advantage of business opportunities in online content creation, branded and corporate programming and live event production, both domestically and internationally.

Over the past year, Coffey has driven the company’s move into drama through the creation of West Midlands-based label Mill Bay Media, launched in April. Headed by Will Trotter and Ollie Kent, the outfit is producing six-part BBC series The Hairdresser Mysteries, with other projects in development.

Coffey also helped secure funding for a documentary project from another of the group’s production labels, Love Monday, and has worked alongside Penny Lane Entertainment creative head Lee Connolly on the group’s expansion into branded content.

Through Coffey, the group has pivoted to online content, managing social media channels for individuals and brands, together with podcasts, through the creation of new digital-focused label Joy Peddlers.

Bullen said: “Alex has been an integral part of 53 Degrees Global since its inception and has played a big role in overseeing its growth since then.

“As we continue to expand the group, especially into a wide range of revenue streams across digital, television, live events and corporate clients, he will be tasked with ramping up our business strategy to identify and take advantage of new opportunities in the changing media landscape.”

Coffey added: “I have really enjoyed building this thriving group of companies, led by fantastically creative teams, and I’m now looking forward to working with them all to take 53 Degrees Global’s business into its next phase of growth across the UK and globally.
