108 Media visits Arctic

Canada-based distributor 108 Media has boosted its documentary slate by taking rights to films on subjects such as the Arctic, Syrian refugees and over-population.

Headlining 108 Media’s slate is Cold Love (1×64′), a 2015 film from Deia Schlosberg about the work of Artic explorer Lonnie Dupre to protect fragile Arctic environments.

The doc will sit under the 108 Believe label, a speciality distribution arm launched by the company in 2015 focusing on inspiring and real-life stories. 108 Media is shopping the programme at IDFA 2016, which kicked off in Amsterdam last week.

Also on the slate is Exodus (1×72′), which is directed by Elias Matar and documents the journey of Syrian refugees as they cross the Aegean Sea from Turkey into Greece.

It has also added Footprint (1×81′), a 2016 documentary directed by Valentina Canavesio that tells the story of what an over-populated future might look like.

Last of its new acquisitions is The Great Sasuke (1×73′), written by and starring Mikiko Saski, which chronicles one life-changing year in the career of a regional Japanese wrestler and local politician known as The Great Sasuke.

“We’ve always had a passion for thought-provoking documentaries and these titles offer a global perspective on some truly moving and astonishing life stories, which will capture the attention of buyers and film fans alike,” said Abhi Rastogi, CEO of 108 Media.
