108 Media, 20stm Pictures adapt Japanese paleontology picture book

The Real Size Paleontology Picture Book

London- and Singapore-based producer, financier and distributor 108 Media has optioned the rights to the Real Size Paleontology Picture Book, a Japanese illustrated title from author Ken Tsuchiya.

108 Media is adapting the property as a TV series and has partnered with Belgian production company and CGI studio 20stm Pictures.

The book, released by Japanese publisher Gijutsu Hyoronsha in 2018, poses the question of what if prehistoric creatures existed today.

Three editions of the book series have been released to date, selling more than 100,000 copies and with translated editions being released in Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore and Malaysia.

108 Media and 20stm Pictures are currently developing the project and raising financing, with the goal of going into production next year.

Author Tsuchiya, who is also a paleontologist, and Gunma Prefectural Museum of Natural History are collaborating on the series to ensure scientific accuracy.
