News Corp puts Fox series, films online

News Corp is advancing its strategy of selling TV series and films from the Fox stable online through its portfolio of websites including MySpace and the IGN network.

The company, which last week struck a search marketing deal worth US$900m with Google, will begin adding shows such as 24, Prison Break and House to IGN from October, with MySpace following soon after.

Fox Interactive Media, which was set up last year after News Corp paid US$650m for IGN Entertainment and US$580m for MySpace parent Intermix, has already experimented with distributing TV shows via the latter.

The division now plans to significantly expand these activities, building on its deal with Apple back in May, when 16 Fox television series were added to the iTunes Music Store.

Some of these shows will be made available via IGN.com, GameSpy and Rotten Tomatoes, amongst other IGN properties, for US$1.99 per episode, the same as the iTunes price. Films from 20th Century Fox, such as X-Men, will cost US$19.99.
