Newen exec climbs on Elephant for drama

French production group Elephant has appointed the head of international coproductions from Newen Group to a newly created role focusing on international drama.

Sandra Ouaiss

Sandra Ouaiss has joined Elephant as executive producer and head of international drama after two years with TF1-owned Newen.

Ouaiss will work on a slate of both international and French drama series to be produced by her own fiction label within Elephant Story, Elephant’s drama subsidiary headed by Gaëlle Cholet and Guillaume Renouil.

In addition to developing projects for French broadcasters, Ouaiss will also oversee Elephant’s push into international scripted production, with a particular focus on projects for major SVoD platforms.

Ouaiss is currently executive producer on the previously announced Newen/Telfrance production Germanized for Amazon Studios and Deutsche Telekom, marking the latter’s first original series for its IPTV platform EntertainTV.

Ouaiss will also be tasked with seeking potential coproduction partners within the international distribution industry as Elephant looks for a first-look distribution partner for its slate of current and future productions.

Prior to setting up a consultancy business in 2011, Ouaiss held senior roles at pay TV broadcaster Canal+ and was also acquisitions and scheduling director at NBCUniversal channel 13ème Rue.

Elephant was created in 1999 by Emmanuel Chain and Thierry Bizot. It claims to be the largest independent producer in France and is also one of the co-founders of international content production group, iZen.
