New South Wales renews production fund

The New South Wales government has renewed its Made in NSW fund to attract international productions and Australian series to the state, Australia’s most populous.

The government will provide A$10m (US$7.3m) per year over the next four years for the fund, administered by state agency Create NSW.

Since launching in June 2016, the fund has offered A$20m over two years to lure 12 international film and TV projects and 21 Aussie TV shows.

That slate included the movies Peter Rabbit and Malevolent, Chinese miniseries Chosen and local TV productions Bite Club, Lambs of God, Sando, Dead Lucky, Mystery Road and Fighting Season.

To date, the fund has brought in production spending of more than A$412m and created nearly 11,000 jobs, according to the NSW government.

Arts minister Don Harwin said: “When we first announced this fund, we set out to show Hollywood what NSW was capable of. I’m delighted to say that message has been received loud and clear and we’re now extending our reach into Asia Pacific.”
