New Regency opens UK office

12 Years a Slave and Birdman producer New Regency has hired the former senior VP and head of Europe at Lionsgate Entertainment for a role based in a new European office in London.

Charlotte Thorp

New Regency has appointed film and television sales executive Charlotte Thorp as senior VP and head of international sales.

Thorp will work in New Regency’s new London office, which will serve as a hub for both production and the licensing and distribution of the company’s large content library and upcoming productions to territories outside of North America.

Thorp, who before joining Lionsgate in 2016 was Entertainment One’s head of film and TV sales in the UK, will report to Yariv Milchan, chairman of New Regency. Thorp left Lionsgate earlier this year.

“The opening of our UK office actively aligns with our growth plans for New Regency internationally,” said Milchan.

New Regency has recently reorganised the international TV sales of its film library in-house, a practice the company had in place previously with the exception of a period during which Lionsgate represented its library internationally.

In the new role, Thorp will be charged with driving international sales of New Regency’s library of over 140 films as well as overseeing the international TV sales of upcoming New Regency product.

New Regency’s library includes the Academy Award-winners Birdman and 12 Years A Slave, in addition to blockbusters such as The Revenant, Mr and Mrs Smith, Heat, Fight Club and LA Confidential.

Thorp oversaw Lionsgate’s activities in the EMEA region for linear, SVoD and AVoD sales for titles such as Orange is the New Black, Nashville, Blacksails and Spartacus, as well as feature films.

New Regency’s upcoming theatrical film slate includes Bohemian Rhapsody, the Queen biographical feature starring Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, which will be released on November 2.
