New Nat Geo hub orders three

National Geographic Channels’ new London-based production hub has revealed its first three commissions, including a British version of its popular Doomsday Preppers franchise.

Preppers UK: Surviving Armageddon is a one-hour special from Zodiak-owned Bullseye that will air at the end of this year alongside US series Doomsday Preppers.

It will focus on British people taking extreme measures to prepare for doomsday-type scenarios like a nuclear war or economic collapse.

The content hub, led by executive VP and head of international content Hamish Mykura, has also green-lit two new series.

Ten-part behind the scenes doc Dubai: Ultimate Airport from Arrow Media, and Vinnie Jones’ Toughest Russia (6×60′), in which Tern TV takes the Hollywood hardman east to experience gruelling working conditions will both premiere in 2013.

In related news, Nat Geo Wild in the US has commissioned a second season of Fish Tank Kings from Sharp Entertainment for 2013.

The series focuses on Florida-based aquarium builders Living Color and the extreme commissions they receive from the rich and famous.
