New MD for Metronome Denmark

Shine Group-owned Scandinavian production outfit Metronome is replacing its long-serving Danish chief, who is stepping down to start a new production company.

Kent Nikolajsen, currently vice-MD and director of programmes at Metronome Productions, is replacing Merete Mortensen as MD of the Copenhagen-based firm.

Mortensen is leaving after 10 years in the role to start a new production company within Shine that will launch at the turn of the year.

She said: “It’s a great opportunity for me to shape a new business and do it with such a strong partner as the Shine Group supporting me.”

Nikolajsen has been with the company for eight years, joining first as an executive producer, then head of programmes and adding the vice-MD role five years ago.

He began his career as a news and sports reporter with regional TV2 stations before becoming a journalist, host and editor at Danish pubcaster DR.

The change follows the arrival of former FremantleMedia COO Gary Carter as Shine Group chairman of Northern Europe in June. His remit spans Shine Germany and the Metronome group of production companies across Scandinavia.

Carter said: “Kent has been a key contributor to the success of Metronome over the past eight years and it is natural and fitting that the leadership of the company would pass to him.”

A similar change happened in the Finnish arm of Metronome in June with Mika Toivainen and Tarja Pääkkönen taking over as interim joint-MDs following Milla Bruneau’s exit for rival Yellow Film & TV. Head of development Topi Alto also left the firm earlier this year to join rival producer Aito Media.

Metronome Productions worked on 30 shows and almost 200 hours of television for the Danish market in 2012.
