The US SVoD service has reportedly acquired the show’s rights from producer Thomas Tull’s Legendary Entertainment, which bought the rights from series creator Irwin Allen.

The classic sci-fi series ran for three seasons from 1965 on CBS and was a futuristic version of the Swiss Family Robinson. In 1998, the cult show was also reworked as a movie, which received mixed reviews.

It marks the latest in a string of reboots of classic TV properties from Netflix, with the streamer already bringing back Arrested Development and Gilmore Girls, among others.

In related news, Netflix is continuing its push into the original movie space with two new features.

The Californian firm will launch noir comedy Girlfriend’s Day and thriller Mercy in 2016 on its platform and in movie theatres worldwide.
