Netflix takes Nicky Jam to US

Musical drama Nicky Jam: El Ganador drew a good deal of attention on Netflix

Netflix has licensed Hispanic drama series Nicky Jam: El Ganador from Endemol Shine Boomdog (ESB) for its subscribers in the US.

The 13-part series tells the story of real-life reggaeton star Nicky Jam, from his troubled start in Boston, his fight against drug addiction through to becoming one of the most popular exponents of urban music.

The series was produced by ESB for NBCUniversal’s US Hispanic network Telemundo and stars Nicky Jam as himself, while Jessy Terrero directs.

Netflix previously picked up the series for its international subscribers but will now also make it available in the US from April 21 after extending its licensing arrangement with ESB.

Endemol Shine Boomdog is the Mexican production unit set up by Endemol Shine North America and local prodco Boomdog.
