Netflix starts up Kevin James Nascar sitcom

Streaming giant Netflix has picked up a multi-camera comedy series set in the world of Nascar racing and starring comedian Kevin James.

The Crew will also be exec produced by James (The King of Queens, Paul Blart: Mall Cop) and tells the story of a crew chief in a Nascar garage who must come to terms with working with millennials, all of whom have different ways of running a race team.

Jeff Lowell (The Ranch) will write, showrun and executive produce The Crew. Other executive producers include Jeff Sussman (The King of Queens) and Todd Garner (Isn’t It Romantic), while Matt Summers and Tim Clark will serve as exec producers for Nascar.

The Crew will bring James back to multicam TV after CBS cancelled his show Kevin Can Wait in 2018 after two season.

James previously worked on the films True Memoirs of an International Assassin and Sandy Wexler for Netflix. The SVoD service has also aired several of his stand-up comedy specials.
