Netflix sinks teeth into vampire series

Global streamer Netflix has made a straight-to-series order for a new vampire drama starring Ian Somerhalder.

Somerhalder in The Vampire Diaries

V-Wars will run to 10 episodes and is based on a novel of the same name by Jonathan Maberry from publisher IDW.

Canadian indie High Park Entertainment is producing the series alongside US prodco IDW Entertainment, which will also distribute worldwide (excluding Canada).

William Laurin and Glenn Davis will serve as showrunners and Brad Turner will direct and executive produce. High Park’s Eric Birnberg and Thomas Walden will also exec produce, along with IDW president David Ozer, CEO Ted Adams and Marada Pictures’ Games Gibb.

V-Wars sees mankind get infected with bacteria that cause people to turn into vampires. Somerhalder previously starred in The Vampire Diaries.

The new show was previously being developed by IDW and Entertainment One in 2014 but the latter is no longer attached.
