Snyder has created the series with Oliva, who will serve as the showrunner, director and executive producer. Snyder will also exec produce.

The duo have a longstanding creative partnership spanning more than a dozen live-action feature films, including Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, 300: Rise of an Empire and Man of Steel.

Snyder is also currently directing, writing and producing zombie movie Army of the Dead for Netflix, while Oliva is in production on Manila-set original anime series Trese for the streamer.

Snyder’s wife, Deborah Snyder, and Wesley Coller will produce the new series alongside the Hollywood director through Stone Quarry Animation, their production company’s newest venture with Oliva.

Netflix is the global home to anime titles including Ultraman, Aggretsuko, Castlevania, Devilman Crybaby, Godzilla: The Planet Eater, Baki, Violet Evergarden, B: The Beginning and The Seven Deadly Sins.

In the past year, the streaming giant has also announced several upcoming anime titles based on global IP, including Magic: The Gathering, Pacific Rim, Altered Carbon, Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 and Transformers: War for Cybertron, all of which are currently in development.

New anime series Cannon Busters, Seis Manos and Levius will launch later this year.
