Netflix, NRK’s Norsemen return

Norsemen is set in 790AD

MIPCOM: Production has begun on a second season of Norsemen, the comedy from Norway’s NRK that has gone global via Netflix.

The series is produced by Anders Tangen’s Viafilm, which has worked on shows including Lilyhammer, and is being shot simultaneously in Norwegian and English for the international market. Scriptwriters include Jon Iver Helgaker and Jonas Torgersen.

Norsemen is set in 790AD and follows the life of a decadent and self-important actor from Rome who begins a new life as a slave in Norway.

He eventually finds an admirer in the chieftain’s cowardly and downtrodden brother, and together they steer their small village towards arts and crafts rather than warfare.

The show is coproduced by Norwegian pubcaster NRK and the second season is slated to air next year, with regional sales outfit NordicWorld distributing.
