Netflix nabs Miraculous second season

Streaming giant Netflix is among a host of TV platforms to have picked up the second season of a popular toon from France’s Zag Animation.

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir (78×22’) is created by Zag and Method Animation. Canada’s Family Channel has also acquired the second season of the show, as have South Korean cablenet Tooniverse and Disney Channel Latin America.

Seasons two and three of the series are coproduced by Zagtoon, France’s Method Animation, South Korea’s SamG Animation, SK Broadband, Japan’s Toei Animation and Italy’s DeAgostini Editore SPA in collaboration with Disney Channel EMEA, French broadcasters TF1 and AB, and Brazil’s Globosat.

The show is distributed internationally by PGS Entertainment, AB, Zagtoon, Method and SamG Animation.

Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir follows the adventures of two teens with secret identities who transform into superheroes, Ladybug and Cat Noir, when evil threatens Paris. The first official mobile game based on the animation is also set to launch in April from game developer and publisher TabTale.

Season two of the series will launch on Netflix in the US on Friday March 30, Family Channel on March 16, Tooniverse in April and Disney Channel Lat Am later this year.

The premieres follow debuts in France on TF1, across Europe on Disney Channel EMEA, in Brazil on Gloob and in French Canada on Tele-Quebec.

In related news, Netflix has acquired a documentary about the Mossad Israeli intelligence agency.

Mossad: Imperfect Spies is a four-part series created by journalist Yossi Melman, director Duki Dror and filmmaker Chen Shelach for Israeli network Hot’s Channel 8.

The streamer has taken the rights for everywhere except Israel, Germany and France and will launch the doc in January 2019. It will also air on France’s Arte to coincide with Israel’s 70th anniversary of independence this year.

The streamer has also picked up a series based on animated Hollywood movie The Boss Baby.

The Boss Baby: Back in Business is made by DreamWorks Animation Television and executive produced by Brandon Sawyer (Penguins of Madagascar). It will premiere on April 6.
