Netflix lights up marijuana murder doc

Lightbox’s Netflix docuseries Murder Mountain

Netflix is working with UK- and US-based prodco Lightbox on a documentary series investigating a series of murders in a remote, Californian community.

Murder Mountain (6×60′) is set in Humboldt County, where marijuana has become the dominant local industry and dozens of people have gone missing in the past few years – more than in any other county in California.

The series focuses on one missing person in particular, 29-year-old Garret Rodriguez, who was last seen in 2013. The series also offers an exclusive look at Humboldt’s marijuana farms, both legal and illegal.

It will launch on Netflix on December 28 and is produced by Lightbox, the company founded by Academy Award-winning producer Simon Chinn (Man on Wire, Searching for Sugar Man) and Emmy winner Jonathan Chinn (LA 92, Fantastic Lies).

The executive producers are Jonathan and Simon Chinn and the co-executive producers are Stephen Neely and Matt Testa. It is directed by Joshua Zeman.

“Murder Mountain is a riveting tale about vigilante justice and outlaw culture in a lawless community that resembles America’s Wild West past,” said Jonathan and Simon Chinn in a joint statement.
