Netflix kids’ show celebrates black voices

Netflix is preparing a kids’ series focusing on children’s books about the black experience.

Bookmarks: Celebrating Black Voices (12×5′) will see black celebrities read out children’s books written by black authors.

It will arrive on the streaming service on September 1 and is set to feature the likes of Lupita Nyong’o, Tiffany Haddish, Karamo Brown, Common and Misty Copeland.

Books set to feature include Anti-Racist Baby by Dr Ibram X Kendi, ABC’s For Girls Like Me by Melanie Goolsby and The Day You Begin by Jacqueline Woodson.

The series will be hosted and executive produced by 15-year-old activist and author of Marley Dias. It is produced by Jesse Collins Entertainment.

Dias is the founder of the #1000BlackGirlBooks campaign, an international movement to collect and donate children’s books that feature black girls as the lead character.
