Netflix joins Literary & Potato Peel Society

Lily James in The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Society

Global streaming giant Netflix has picked up a post-war drama starring Downton Abbey’s Lily James and Game of Thrones actor Michiel Huisman.

The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Society is based on 2008’s bestselling novel of the same name from Annie Barrows and Mary Ann Shaffer. Netflix has taken the rights to the film, directed by Mike Newell, for North America, Latin America, Italy, Eastern Europe and South-East Asia.

StudioCanal financed the production and will release the film in theatres on April 20 in the UK followed by launches in Australia, New Zealand, France and Germany.

Written by Don Roos, Tom Bezucha and Kevin Hood, it has been produced by Paula Mazur and Mitchell Kaplan from The Mazur/Kaplan Company alongside Blueprint Pictures’ Graham Broadbent and Pete Czernin.

The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Society follows a journalist who decides to write about a book club formed in the Channel Islands after the Second World War.
