Netflix hunts down Operation Buffalo

Operation Buffalo debuted on ABC in Australia

Global streamer Netflix has picked up period spy thriller Operation Buffalo for the Asia-Pacific region, except China.

The six-part series will debut on the platform on February 28 following the deal with Paris-based financer and distributor About Premium Content (APC).

Sales were also made to Belgian broadcaster RTBF, Acorn TV in the UK and Ireland, UPC in Switzerland, RTP in Portugal, NRK TV in Norway and Viasat World for Central and Eastern European territories last year.

APC holds international distribution rights after partly financing the project. Other investment came from Screen Australia to help the series debut in Australia in 2020.

The period drama, set during the British atomic tests in the Australian outback in the 1950s, was originally commissioned by Aussie pubcaster the ABC and produced by Porchlight Films.

Operation Buffalo is written by Peter Duncan (Rake) and produced by Porchlight Films’ Vincent Sheehan and series co-creator Tanya Phegan.

Laurent Boissel and Emmanuelle Guilbart, joint-CEOs and co-founders of APC, say: “Operation Buffalo is an original and entertaining take on a spy thriller. We look forward to new audiences discovering the series on Netflix and RTBF and extending into further territories in the coming months.”
