Netflix gives NY improv troupe own series

New York’s improv comedy group Astronomy Club

Global streamer Netflix has ordered a six-part variety sketch series starring New York-based improv comedy group Astronomy Club.

The 6×30’ series of the same name will use the group’s performances and comedy to discuss complex and nuanced real-world topics.

Astronomy Club was formed in New York in 2013. The team became the first all-black house team at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre.

The group’s members are Shawtane Bowen, Jonathan Braylock, Ray Cordova, James III, Caroline Martin, Jerah Milligan, Monique Moses and Keisha Zollar.

The series is executive produced by Kenya Barris (black-ish, Girls’ Trip) through his company Khalabo Ink Society and Daniel Powell (Inside Amy Schumer, I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson) for Irony Point.
