Netflix France sets up in Luxembourg

Subscription VoD giant Netflix looks set to launch its French operation from Luxembourg to bypass the French regulatory system.

French newspaper Les Echos today reported that the US company has registered in the Grand Duchy.

Netflix representatives last week met with officials from the French government and regulatory body the Conseil Supérieur de l’Audiovisuel.

The minister for culture and communication Aurélie Filippetti admitted last week that there was no way to oblige Netflix to set up within France.

According to the country’s rules, movies cannot been offered via SVoD within three years of their theatrical release, while French channels and platforms are obliged to invest in local production.
