Netflix finds Time

Netflix has struck a deal with Canadian toon house Guru Studio for its CGI preschool series Justin Time across multiple territories.

The OTT service has acquired the subscription video-on-demand (SVoD) rights for both seasons (totalling 52×11′) of Justin Time in the US and UK, and for season one (26×11′) in Latin America.

The series, which follows three friends embarking on fantastical adventures through time, from riding rockets in space to exploring the pyramids of Egypt, will be released on Netflix in the US and UK in April and two months later in Latin America.

The SVoD deal follows sales of the series to linear broadcasters such as Disney Junior in Canada, Nick Jr in France, Super RTL in Germany and Hop! Channel in Israel, among others.

Erik Barmack, director of content acquisitions at Netflix, said: “Justin Time will be a great addition to our Just for Kids portfolio. The show naturally fits in with our high-quality range of kids shows.”

Last year, Netflix members watched more than two billion hours of kids content, according to the VoD firm. This demand has led to Netflix commissioning its first original series for kids, DreamWorks Animation’s Turbo: FAST, a spin-off of the upcoming feature film of the same name.
