Netflix finds Last Kids on Earth

Atomic Cartoons in Canada is producing The Last Kids on Earth

Netflix has taken worldwide rights to an animated adaptation of a comedy book series for children set in the aftermath of an apocalypse.

The Last Kids on Earth has gone into production with Atomic Cartoons in Canada, part of the Thunderbird production group, which optioned rights to the books last year.

The books follow a 13-year-old boy and a band of suburban middle schoolers who live in a tree house, play video games, gorge themselves on candy and battle zombies.

Written by Max Brallier and illustrated by Doug Holgate, the fourth instalment in the book series, The Last Kids on Earth & the Cosmic Beyond, will be published in September by Viking, an imprint of Penguin Young Readers.

Brallier is executive producing and writing on the series alongside writer Scott Peterson (Phineas & Ferb), who will also serve as showrunner. Atomic Cartoons’ Jennifer McCarron and Matthew Berkowitz will executive produce.

Recent series Atomic Cartoons has worked on include Beat Bugs, Little Charmers, Marvel’s Avengers Assemble, Rocket Monkeys, Counterfeit Cat, Max & Ruby and Transformers Rescue Bots.
