Netflix extends Dark in Germany

Dark is written by Jantje Friese

Netflix has ordered a second season of its first German original series, a mystery drama from the producer of critically acclaimed movie The Lives of Others.

Dark is produced by Endemol Shine Germany-backed prodco Wiedemann & Berg and was launched on the streamer earlier this year.

It follows four families living in a small German town called Winden as their lives are thrown into disarray when two of their children suddenly disappear.

Baran bo Odar (Who Am I?) directed the first run, which was penned by Jantje Friese. Both were attached as showrunners, while producers included Quirin Berg, Max Wiedemann and Justyna Musch.

Kelly Luegenbiehl, VP of international originals at Netflix, said the show “is a testament that great storytelling transcends geography. We’re excited that our members around the globe are captivated by the mysterious world of Winden and will now be able to continue to see how the story unfolds.”

Dark’s first season order in 2016 came shortly after streaming rival Amazon Prime Instant Video commissioned its first original German-language series, Wanted.
