Netflix Europe in US drama spree

MIPCOM: Netflix has acquired seven CBS and Showtime dramas for its European feeds, including a first window for the latter cablenet’s Penny Dreadful.

The multi-territory deal with CBS Studios International spans Netflix’s presence in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

The subscription VoD service has also picked up earlier seasons of CBS shows Elementary, Under The Dome and Ray Donovan, plus Dexter, Deadwood and Jericho.

Separately, the UK’s Channel 4 has taken free-to-air first-window rights to The CW’s new hour-long comedy Jane The Virgin, ahead of its launch stateside today.

The show is set to premiere on the UK pubcaster’s youth-skewing channel E4 in 2015. It is produced by CBS Television Studios and Warner Bros Television in association with Electus, and is distributed internationally by CBS Studios International.
