Netflix embarks on more Chilling Adventures

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is based on characters from Archie Comics

Streaming giant Netflix has renewed its supernatural horror series The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina for a further 16 episodes.

The new order will be made available as parts three and four and goes into production in 2019. The previously announced part two is set to premiere in April 2019.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina was commissioned by Netflix a year ago and follows the success of teen drama Riverdale. Both shows are based on characters from Archie Comics.

Netflix’s show is a prequel to 1990s series Sabrina the Teenage Witch and imagines the origins and adventures of a young Sabrina Spellman as a dark coming-of-age story touching on horror, the occult and witchcraft.

The series is produced by Greg Berlanti’s Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros Television and was created and exec produced by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Lee Toland Krieger, Berlanti, Sarah Schechter (Berlanti Productions) and Jon Goldwater (Archie Comics) also exec produce.

In related news, Netflix has ordered French and Brazilian localised versions of Channel 4 social media competition series The Circle to complement the US adaptation announced earlier this year.

In October, the SVoD service announced it was remaking the format in three countries having picked up the rights from distributor All3Media International.

The format sees contestants live in separate apartments in a single building and construct their own online personalities. The show was created by All3Media-owned Studio Lambert creative director Tim Harcourt and coproduced by Studio Lambert and programme financing outfit Motion Content Group for C4, where it launched in September.

The French and Brazilian adaptations will use the same London setting as the C4 series but will use local prodcos.
