Netflix climbs aboard Snowpiercer series

The original South Korean-Czech sci-fi film Snowpiercer starred John Hurt and was based on a French graphic novel

Netflix has boarded a futuristic action thriller based on the movie Snowpiercer for viewers outside the US and China through a deal with ITV Studios Global Entertainment.

The Snowpiercer TV series is a coproduction between Tomorrow Studios, a joint venture between Marty Adelstein and ITV Studios, and Turner-owned Studio T. The show will air on TNT in the US.

The series is executive produced by Adelstein (Aquarius, Prison Break, Teen Wolf) and Becky Clements (Good Behaviour, Aquarius, Last Man Standing).

Writer and producer Graeme Manson (Orphan Black) is the showrunner and also serves as executive producer alongside Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange), Matthew O’Connor (Continuum) and the original film’s Bong Joon Ho, Park Chan-wook, Lee Tae-hun and Dooho Choi. James Hawes is the director and co-executive producer on the project.

Set seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, Snowpiercer centres on the last remaining survivors who inhabit a train that circles the globe. Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs star.
