Netflix calls for Korea’s School Nurse

SVoD giant Netflix has ordered a Korean original series based on a popular supernatural-themed book by local author Jung Se-rang.

School Nurse Ahn Eun Young (working title) centres on a recently appointed high-school nurse who discovers secrets and mysteries through her ability to make contact with ghosts.

Throughout the series, which is based on the novel of the same name, Ahn Eun Young will find herself involved with supernatural phenomena, using exorcism in a comedic way to help her through.

The six-part show is produced by Korean outfit Oh!Boy Project, the company behind popular romantic comedy Flower Boy Ramen Shop and action series Hwarang.

Park Sung-hye and Shin Yeon-ju will exec produce the series alongside Kim Hyun-jeong. Jung Se-rang is attached as writer, while Lee Kyoung-mi (The Truth Beneath, Crush and Blush) will direct the drama, which will star Jung Yu-mi (Train to Busan) as Ahn Eun Young.

School Nurse Ahn Eun Young is the latest title on a growing list of Netflix scripted originals coming from South Korea. Netflix renewed historical zombie series Kingdom last month and announced new drama My First First Love in September.

The streamer moved into Korean originals just under 18 months ago with the commission of animated series Love Alarm, which launches next year.
