Netflix awakens Unsolved Mysteries

SVoD giant Netflix is rebooting true crime show Unsolved Mysteries as a global docuseries, with one of the prodcos behind the streamer’s drama hit drama Stranger Things on board.

The show will focus on one mystery in each episode and will seek the help of audiences to assist investigators in solving longstanding cases, with the streamer aiming to maintain the chilling feeling of the original while exploring the stories through the prism of a doc.

The original show, which began on NBC and ran for 11 seasons in total, documented cold cases and paranormal phenomena, featuring re-enactments of unsolved crimes, missing persons cases, conspiracy theories and unexplained paranormal occurrences.

The 12-episode reboot will be produced by original creators Cosgrove/Meurer Productions alongside Stranger Things outfit 21 Laps.

Unsolved Mysteries’ original co-creator Terry Dunn Meurer will serve as showrunner of the new series, with fellow co-creator John Cosgrove exec producing. Shawn Levy and Josh Barry will exec produce for 21 Laps, while Robert Wise will co-exec produce.
