US streamer Netflix has commissioned an eight-part anime series set in the world of Greek mythology.

US streamer Netflix has commissioned an eight-part anime show that explores the world of Greek mythology.

Gods & Heroes is being produced by US-based Powerhouse Animation, which is behind animated show Castlevania for the streamer, and was created by Charley and Vlas Parlapindes.

The show, about an illegitimate son of Zeus who must save the world, joins a raft of original anime shows on Netflix, including an adaptation of the movie Pacific Rim and an animated version of Altered Carbon.

It also ordered Kengan Ashura and Ultraman last year and has commissioned Mexico-set Seis Manos, which also has Powerhouse on board to produce.

“In Gods & Heroes we wanted to tell a wholly original story set in the beloved world of Greek mythology,” said Vlas and Charley Parlapanides.

“We are thankful for such an amazing cast and for such great creative partners at Netflix and Powerhouse Animation, who continue to push the envelope and expand the anime genre in a manner we had only dreamed of.”
