Netflix agrees deal with Lost in Space exec

Netflix’s Lost in Space launched in 2018

Netflix has renewed Lost in Space for a third and final season while inking an overall deal with the sci-fi drama’s showrunner Zack Estrin.

Described as a reimagining of the classic 1960s series, Netflix’s version of Lost in Space premiered in 2018 and will end its run in 2021.

The Netflix original is produced by Legendary Television and stars Toby Stephens, Molly Parker, Maxwell Jenkins, Mina Sundwall, Taylor Russell, Ignacio Serricchio and Parker Posey. Estrin, Kevin Burns, Jon Jashni, Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless serve as executive producers.

Set 30 years in the future, when colonisation in space is now a reality, it follows the Robinson family after they have been selected to make a new life for themselves in a better world. But when the new colonists find themselves abruptly torn off course en route to their new home, they must forge new alliances and work together to survive in a dangerous alien environment, lightyears from their original destination.

“From the beginning, we’ve always viewed this particular story of the Robinsons as a trilogy – a three-part epic family adventure with a clear beginning, middle and end,” said Estrin.

The showrunner will next enter a multi-year overall deal to produce new series exclusively at Netflix.
