NENT serves up Food & Fire on Viaplay

Nordic Entertainment (NENT) Group has commissioned a six-part food docuseries that will premiere on its Viaplay streaming service this autumn.

English-language show Food & Fire will see celebrity chef Niklas Ekstedt explore ancient cooking techniques that rely on coal. It will follow the Swede as he travels to the Basque Country, Texas, Istanbul, Finland, Naples and Peru with a view to implementing the old ways into modern cuisine.

Ekstedt co-created the show, which Banijay-owned Mastiff is producing.

Food & Fire is the seventh original docuseries for Viaplay, which is aiming to premiere 20 original productions every year and is available in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. Original NENT Group docs that have already premiered on the streamer include Manson’s Bloodline, Swedish Sin Couple Thinkers and Superswede.

Last week the company ordered Swedish medical drama First Responders as its next original scripted production for Viaplay. The series follows the daily lives of hospital, police and rescue personnel in the beautiful but hazardous Swedish mountains.

First Responders is produced by Joakim Hansson (The Lawyer) for Sweden’s SF Studios and directed by Lena Koppel and Richard Jarnhed.
