NENT links with Läckberg for original

Nordic Entertainment (NENT) Group has teamed up with bestselling Swedish author Camila Läckberg for an original series for its Viaplay streaming service.

Hammarvik is a copro between Nordisk Film TV and Film i Väst and blends drama crime drama and soap opera. Charlotte Berlin serves as creative producer, with Eccho Rights handling the series’ global distribution.

Beginning filming in Sweden in spring 2020, the 16-part series will air exclusively on NENT’s streaming platform Viaplay across the Nordic region later next year.

Filippa Wallestam, NENT Group chief content officer, said: “Camilla Läckberg’s writing has an unmistakably cinematic style ideally suited to this project. The unique combination of crime drama and soap opera in Hammarvik will enable Viaplay audiences to follow richly developed characters and explore multiple storylines – while unravelling a mystery in the best traditions of the Nordic crime genre.”

The announcement of Hammarvik brings the number of NENT original productions in the past 12 months to 57, with the company originally committing to launching 20 original titles each year.

In May, NENT Group invested in a minority stake in new US production company Picturestart together with a range of high-profile industry partners.
