NENT, Hasak prep Munich Olympics drama

Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT Group) and Canada’s Kew Media Group have linked up with showrunner Adi Hasak (Shades of Blue) on a drama about the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre.

Hasak will create, write and produce Margeaux, which will premiere across the Nordic region exclusively on NENT Group’s Viaplay streaming service. JJ Wienkers will co-write the show, which is being sold globally by Kew.

The show tells the tragic story of the 1972 Munich Olympics massacre from the points of view of an Israeli Mossad psychologist and the Palestinian coordinator behind the attack.

Filmed in multiple countries in Hebrew, Arabic, English and German, Margeaux will go into production this autumn.

Hasak created NBC crime series Shades of Blue and was also behind USA Network’s thriller Eyewitness, as well as having worked on movies such as 3 Days to Kill with Luc Besson.

The showrunner also experienced a terror attack himself as a young boy before being caught up in a cycle of violence as an Israeli paratrooper in 1980s Beirut.

Carrie Stein

Jakob Mejlhede Andersen, NENT Group’s head of content, said the “psychological depth and dramatic scope” of Margeaux highlighted the company’s drama ambitions, adding that the show would be a “hard-hitting and truly unforgettable series.”

Carrie Stein, Kew’s exec VP of global scripted TV series, added: “We couldn’t be happier to be partnering with NENT Group who, like Kew, are casting a global net to find distinctive stories that are emotionally engaging.”

Hasak described the show as “a meditation on violence and terrorism, gender politics, gay rights, redemption and love” that would “offer a unique perspective on who we used to be, and what has led to who we are today.” He added the show would be a “unique and international character-driven franchise.”

In related news, NENT has agreed a multi-year deal with NBCUniversal that will see new and forthcoming NBCU films shown in the Nordic region first on streaming service Viaplay and pay TV offering Viasat.

The extension to the existing deal will see new movies and library content beaching available via NENT’s services, including on its free TV networks, with shows such as Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, and Lady Bird included.

TV series and films from NBCU’s library will also be available, including reality series Keeping Up with the Kardashians and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
