NENT goes big with Hjortshøj comedy

Nordic Entertainment (NENT) Group has lined up a romantic comedy starring comedian Lars Hjortshøj and guest celebrities as its next original Danish series.

Big Lars blends fiction and reality by following the titular character as he seeks to boost his struggling acting career by landing a romantic relationship with a famous person.

Hjortshøj (Klovn) will be joined in the show by Ellen Hillingsø (The Experiment), Martin Brygmann (Langt fra Las Vegas) and Julie Agnete Vang (Borgen).

Written by Søren Frellesen, Maj Bovin and Lars Hjortshøj, the eight-episode series is directed by Morten Boesdal Halvorsen (Klassen) and produced by Copenhagen-based Monday Media. Filming was completed last year.

It will premiere exclusively on Viaplay on April 23, one of at least 30 original productions NENT Group plans to launch in 2020.

Filippa Wallestam, NENT Group’s chief content officer, described the show as a “hilarious, awkward and ultimately touching series” in which “a wide range of Danish stars play exaggerated versions of themselves.”
