NENT brings back Great Escape, Saga’s Stories

Saga’s Stories is set for a second run

Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT) is extending its slate of original content by commissioning new seasons of popular kids’ series The Great Escape and Saga’s Stories.

The Great Escape returns for a third season in an ‘advent calendar’ format, with a new episode airing each day from December 1 to Christmas Eve.

The show presents school subjects including maths and chemistry to young viewers in an engaging way. It is produced by Julia Messelt of Nexiko and will be broadcast in Swedish, Norwegian and Danish versions.

The second instalment of 10-part animated series Saga’s Stories follows a girl growing up and learning from the world around her. The show, featuring illustrations by Emma Göthner, targets children aged between three and six. SF Studio’s Niklas Larsson produces the series.

Both shows, NENT’s 50th and 51st originals, will premiere exclusively on NENT’s Viaplay streaming service in December 2019 and spring 2020 respectively.

Jakob Mejlhede Andersen, Viaplay’s chief creative officer, said: “Our unique kids’ content has won both prizes and viewers’ hearts in the Nordic region. Younger audiences are growing up streaming and Viaplay is a trusted entertainment destination for everyone, where the very best kids content complements world-class sports, films and series.

“The latest seasons of The Great Escape and Saga’s Stories will continue to excite and inform new generations of viewers with high quality storytelling. This is a truly inspiring way for NENT Group to pass the milestone of 50 original series.”

NENT Group’s other original kids series are Peppy Pals and Fixi in Playland, with the latter premiering exclusively on Viaplay on September 13.

Additionally, NENT invested in a minority stake in the new US production company Picturestart in May this year, as well as establishing a UK-based joint venture with indie FilmNation Entertainment in January.
