Nelvana snaps up Super BOOMi

Super BOOMi is produced by Up Studios

Canadian animation studio and children’s entertainment company Nelvana has acquired distribution, licensing and merchandising rights to Chinese animation Super BOOMi.

The deal gives Nelvana rights to the show, produced by Up Studios, outside China. The two companies will work in partnership with Chinese media company Tencent to launch Super BOOMi and associated IP internationally.

The 52×11’ series has already aired two seasons on Chinese streaming site Tencent Video, attracting more than 930 million views. Tencent has ordered third and fourth seasons to be put into production and has licensed the show to regional Chinese broadcasters such as Beijing TV’s KAKU and Hunan TV.

The 3D animated series is about BOOMi bear and his friends, who invent a virtual-reality world where toys come to life.
