Nelvana names development exec

Corus Entertainment-owned Canadian kids’ producer and distributor Nelvana has appointed a Corus Kids executive to work in development.

Brandon Lane

Brandon Lane becomes producer of development for Nelvana’s children’s content and will be responsible for overseeing the creative vision of properties and producing training programmes for the company’s in-house storytellers.

Lane reports to Athena Georgaklis, head of development. He has worked in kids’ TV for more than a decade including as a showrunner, director, screenwriter and producer.

At Corus Kids, Lane was a production executive on shows including Cupcake & Dino: General Services, Hotel Transylvania: The Series, Esme & Roy and Inspector Gadget.

Prior to that, he was development executive and associate creative producer at 9 Story Media Group, where he oversaw development and creative production of YTV’s Cache Craze and Numb Chucks.

Georgaklis said: “Given our commanding position within the international kids’ entertainment space, and our flourishing development slate, this new addition to the team will allow the company to expand production, coproduction and partnerships in the year ahead.”

Earlier this year, the animation prodco linked up with Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation to develop a hybrid 2D/3D series based on car brand Bandai Spirits for the Japanese market.
