The trio will develop and coproduce CGI series Mech Mice, aimed at 6-11s, for a premiere in 2017.

Created by Oktobor Animation’s Dan Wang and Chris Waters, the series is based on an original idea by Lance Priebe, the creator of Disney’s Club Penguin and founder of digital gaming studio Hyper Hippo.

Oktobor, Nelvana and Playmates Toys are partnering on the production, while Priebe will oversee development of web and mobile games based on the series. Playmates Toys is also the global master toy partner for the brand.

The series follows a ‘ragtag’ team of high-tech mice heroes on a mission to protect the weak and defend the mouse way of life. It promises a wide range of interactive digital gaming opportunities and toy lines.

“After two years, Lance Priebe finally figured out how to get mice to pilot their own miniaturised mechs. With their class-leading expertise in anthropomorphised hero action, there is simply no one better to head up mech design and manufacturing than Playmates Toys,” said Chris Waters, Oktobor’s exec VP of business development.

The news follows the joint-venture announced yesterday between Corus and US indie Bento Box Entertainment to launch an animation production company in Toronto.
